AP Calculus BC Difficulty?

Hey everyone, I'm a junior getting ready to choose my classes for next year. I've heard that AP Calculus BC can be tough, but I really want to challenge myself. Anyone who's taken BC before, can you tell me how you found the coursework, and if you have any tips or resources to share? Thanks!

Hey there! First off, you're considering an excellent course to challenge yourself, so kudos for that. AP Calculus BC is generally considered more challenging than AP Calculus AB since it covers more topics and has a faster pace. However, your experience will depend on your school, teacher, and your math abilities.

In terms of coursework, you'll encounter more advanced topics such as sequences and series, parametric and polar equations, and integration techniques. BC will test your problem-solving abilities, but if you have a strong mathematical foundation and decent experience from previous math classes (like Pre-Calculus honors), you'll likely do well.

As for resources, I recommend the following:

1. Your textbook: And, most importantly, practice the problems. Students often underestimate the value of solving problems directly from the textbook.

2. Khan Academy: It offers excellent explanations and practice problems for most AP Calculus BC topics.

3. "Cracking the AP Calculus BC Exam" by The Princeton Review: This book is excellent for test prep, as it contains comprehensive material, tips, and practice exam questions.

4. College Board's AP Central: Utilize their resources and check out the practice exams from previous years to get a feel for the actual exam format.

Some general tips for success in AP Calculus BC:

- Stay consistent with your practice and never skip homework.

- Don't be afraid to ask questions when you don't understand a concept and attend office hours or seek tutoring if necessary.

- Review previous math concepts if you’re struggling with the material early on because a strong foundation is crucial.

- Form a study group with your fellow classmates to discuss and work on problems together.

If you're willing to put in the time and effort, you'll excel in AP Calculus BC. Remember, perseverance and consistency are key. Good luck!
