LGBT+ friendly schools?

I'm an LGBT+ high school junior, and finding a college with a supportive and inclusive environment is really important to me. Does anyone have recommendations for schools that are known to be really great for LGBT+ students? Thanks for the help!

I'm glad you're prioritizing an inclusive and supportive environment as you search for a college! Here are a few recommendations that have developed strong reputations for being LGBT+ friendly:

1. Brown University (Providence, RI): Brown has an LGBTQ+ Center that provides valuable resources, events, and programming to support queer students, including a mentorship program.

2. University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, CA): UC Berkeley has the Gender Equity Resource Center (GenEq) which offers resources to LGBTQ+ students, and there are many queer-focused clubs on campus.

3. New York University (New York, NY): NYU has a strong LGBTQ+ community and is located in a city known for its progressive values. The university offers gender-inclusive housing and an LGBTQ+ Center that supports a variety of programs and services.

4. University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA): UPenn has an LGBT Center that has been supporting students since 1982. The center provides resources, support, events, and a safe space for students to socialize.

5. Oberlin College (Oberlin, OH): Oberlin is known for its liberal and progressive atmosphere. The college has an LGBTQ+ Student Resource Center and offers gender-neutral housing options.

6. Tufts University (Medford, MA): Tufts has strong gender-neutral housing policies and its LGBT Center provides resources, events, and a supportive community.

7. Pomona College (Claremont, CA): Pomona has a Queer Resource Center that serves students from the five Claremont Colleges and organizes events, support groups, and workshops.

Of course, there are many other colleges and universities that are supportive of LGBT+ students, but this should give you a good starting point. As you continue your search, don't hesitate to reach out to each school's LGBTQ+ center or resource office to learn more about campus life and the support available for queer students. Also, keep an eye out for schools that have gender-neutral housing options and policies that specifically address the needs of the LGBT+ community. Good luck with your college search!
