Colleges Not Requiring SAT or ACT?

Hi! I'm in a bit of a pickle; I haven't been able to take the SAT or ACT yet. Are there any colleges out there that have gone test-optional or just don't require them? I'm starting to get nervous about the whole admissions process, so any help would be appreciated!

Hi! No need to worry, there are many colleges that have adopted test-optional policies, meaning they do not require SAT or ACT scores for admission. Some universities implemented these policies in response to the pandemic, but many institutions have made the decision to retain these policies even after the situation has improved. This is due to a growing understanding that standardized test scores may not accurately reflect a student's true potential and abilities.

Examples of well-known test-optional schools include the University of Chicago, Bowdoin College, and the entire University of California (UC) system. Additionally, the UC and Cal State systems are now test-blind, which means they do not use standardized test scores at all in their admissions process. Be sure to research and check with the specific schools you're interested in for their testing policy, as each institution may have its own guidelines.

Keep in mind that even if a college is test-optional, it doesn't mean they won't consider your SAT or ACT scores if you choose to submit them. If you feel that your scores accurately represent your abilities and could strengthen your application, you can still include them. However, if you don't have an opportunity to take the tests or you think your scores might hurt your chances, it's perfectly fine not to submit them at test-optional schools.

Make sure to focus on the other aspects of your application, such as your GPA, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation. These components will play an even more significant role in test-optional admissions processes, as colleges are looking for other ways to evaluate students' fit and potential. Best of luck with your applications!
