I'm applying to the University of Washington and I was wondering if they require letters of recommendation from teachers or counselors? I couldn't find clear information on their website and I'm unsure about who I should ask for LORs if they do.
The University of Washington (UW) does not require, or even consider, letters of recommendation (LORs) for their undergraduate admission process. Indeed, they specifically request that you do not send LORs, even if you're applying to specific programs like the Honors Program.
If you're applying for any merit scholarships, however, a letter of recommendation can increase your chances of being selected for the award. To learn more about the specific requirements for particular scholarships, I'd check out the Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards website, or reach out to this office directly with any questions you may have.
If you're simply looking for ways to strengthen your main overall application to UW, I'd check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle their application essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-university-of-washington-essays/. Without LORs, the essays become even more important, as they are your primary opportunity to showcase your intangible qualities, and provide context for your profile beyond the numbers.
Good luck with your application, and go Huskies!
