How does a 24 on the ACT compare to other test scores?

Hi all! I just got a 24 on my ACT, and I'm wondering how this score compares to other test scores like the SAT? Can anyone give me a rough idea of what this might equate to, or am I better off taking the SAT to see how I perform on that test instead?

Hello! Congratulations on completing the ACT! A 24 on the ACT is a relatively solid score. To give you a rough idea of how that compares to the SAT, it generally equates to an SAT score of around 1180-1190. Keep in mind that this conversion is not exact, but it does provide you with a ballpark figure.

Whether you should consider taking the SAT instead depends on a few factors. If you feel that the ACT's structure and content suit you or if your ACT score already meets your target schools' requirements, then you might not need to take the SAT. However, if you think the SAT's format – lengthier reading passages, different math questions and more emphasis on vocabulary – may suit your strengths better, it could be worth giving it a try. Additionally, if your goal is to achieve higher scores for more competitive schools, trying the SAT may also be a good choice.

It's also important to remember that colleges often don't have a preference between the ACT and the SAT – they'll accept either score. So, it's really up to you to decide which test plays to your strengths while helping you reach your target scores for college admissions. Good luck!
