Is going to the gym an extracurricular activity worth mentioning?

Hi! I'm quite serious about my fitness routine and spend a significant amount of time at the gym. Would it be appropriate to mention this as an extracurricular activity on my college applications, or is it not really relevant? Thank you for your advice!

Hello! It's great to hear that you're dedicated to your fitness routine. In general, extracurricular activities are primarily seen as pursuits outside of your academic responsibilities that showcase your interests, talents, and contributions to your community.

While going to the gym might not stand alone as a traditional extracurricular, it can still be considered if presented in the right context. For example, if your commitment to fitness has led you to become a personal trainer, teach fitness classes, or participate in competitive events (like marathons or bodybuilding competitions), these aspects of your involvement in fitness would be more appropriate to list as extracurricular activities.

If going to the gym has significantly impacted your personal growth or is connected to your future goals, you may also consider discussing it in your college essays. Just remember to emphasize how your dedication to fitness has made a meaningful impact on your life or the lives of others! Good luck with your applications!
