What SAT scores should I be aiming for to get into RPI?

Hey peeps, RPI is one of my top college choices and I'm trying to figure out what my target SAT score should be. Does anyone have any information on the SAT score range for RPI applicants? Thank you!

Hello! Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is a great choice for students interested in engineering, computer science, and other STEM fields. To give you an idea of the SAT score range for RPI, here are the middle 50% SAT score ranges for students who were admitted in recent years:

- Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 660-740

- Math: 700-780

These statistics mean that 25% of admitted students scored below these ranges, 25% scored above them, and the remaining 50% scored within them. To be a competitive applicant, you should aim for a score within or above these ranges, particularly in the Math section, as RPI has a strong emphasis on STEM disciplines.

However, keep in mind that while your SAT score is important, it's not the only factor in your application. RPI, like most colleges, practices a holistic admissions approach, which means they'll also consider factors such as your high school GPA, course rigor, extracurricular activities, leadership experience, and essays. Make sure to focus on these aspects of your application as well to maximize your chances of admission.

If you're looking for tips on how to strengthen your overall application, not just your SAT score, check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle RPI's school-specific supplemental essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-rensselaer-polytechnic-institute-essays

Finally, it is worth noting that RPI is officially test-optional, so you technically don't need to submit an SAT score at all. However, there are many instances where submitting a test score may still make sense. For detailed guidance on how to navigate test-optional policies, check out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/does-test-optional-mean-test-optional

Best of luck with your college application process!
