Where to find great theater programs in colleges?

Hello! I'm a high school junior who's super involved in theater and I'm hoping to find a college with a fantastic theater program. Does anyone have suggestions or recommendations for colleges known for their theater programs? Thanks in advance!

Hello! It's wonderful that you're passionate about theater and looking for a college that shares that enthusiasm. There are quite a few well-respected colleges with fantastic theater programs, and I'm happy to provide you with some recommendations.

- Carnegie Mellon University: CMU's School of Drama has a prestigious reputation and is known for producing many successful theater professionals. They offer both BFA and BA programs, with various concentrations like acting, musical theater, design, and more.

- New York University: NYU's Tisch School of the Arts is another famous institution for theatrical education in the heart of New York City. They have a variety of programs, such as acting, directing, and playwriting, allowing you to immerse yourself in theater both in and out of the classroom.

- University of Michigan: UMich's School of Music, Theatre & Dance provides an excellent theater program that's equally strong in both musical theater and straight theater. Their BFA in Theatre Performance and BFA in Musical Theatre are highly-respected.

- Juilliard School: Located in New York City, Juilliard is an elite performing arts conservatory that places a heavy emphasis on professional preparation. Their prestigious drama division offers both BFA and MFA programs in acting and playwriting.

- Northwestern University: Northwestern's theater program is known for its comprehensive approach to theater education, offering a liberal arts perspective within a strong theater curriculum. They have various major options, including theater, music theater, and theater & performance studies.

- Yale University: Yale is famous for its acting program and offers a BA in Theater studies, as well as an MFA through the Yale School of Drama. While Yale's undergraduate program is less pre-professional than some others on this list, it still provides a strong foundation for students interested in theater.

These are just a few examples of excellent theater programs, but there are certainly many more out there. Visit program websites, explore their course offerings, and connect with current students or alumni to get a better understanding of each program. Make sure to find a good fit not just for your theater interests but also academically and socially. Best of luck in your college search!
