Course suggestions after Algebra 2?

I'm finishing up Algebra 2 this year and I'm not sure what math course is the logical next step. Is it generally Pre-Calculus? Or would taking a different math class (like Statistics) be better? What was your experience, and did you feel prepared for the class you took after Algebra 2?
