BYU SAT Requirements?

Hi there! I'm a junior, and I'm really considering applying to BYU. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with their SAT requirements? Are there any minimum scores that I should be aware of, and how heavily do they weigh test scores in the admissions process?

Hello! While Brigham Young University (BYU) doesn't have a strict minimum SAT score requirement, they do release average SAT scores for their admitted students, which can give you an idea of the general test score range they might be looking for. For the incoming class of 2021, the middle 50% SAT score range was between 1210 and 1370. Aim to score within or above this range to improve your chances, but keep in mind that certain programs within BYU may have more competitive applicant pools and higher average SAT scores.

As for how heavily they weigh test scores, BYU does consider SAT or ACT scores an important factor in the admissions process, along with other factors like GPA, leadership experiences, extracurricular involvement, character, etc. However, they do not have a rigid formula for weighing these factors – the admissions team evaluates applicants using a holistic approach. This means they take into account all aspects of your application, with test scores being just one of many factors that contribute to their decision-making process.

To strengthen your application, focus on maintaining a strong GPA, taking rigorous courses, and being actively engaged in extracurricular activities that reflect your passion and interests. Additionally, a powerful essay and strong letters of recommendation can also help you stand out to the admissions committee. So, while aiming for a competitive SAT score is important, do not forget to develop a well-rounded application by emphasizing your other achievements, talents, and experiences as well. Good luck with your application process!
