Amherst College SAT Scores

Hey guys, I'm considering applying to Amherst College and would appreciate some insight on the average SAT score range for accepted students. Also, how important is the SAT for acceptance? Thank you!

Hello! Amherst College is a highly selective liberal arts college, and as such, they do receive applications from many strong candidates each year. While they do admit students with a range of SAT scores, the middle 50% of accepted students typically score between 1480 and 1550. This means that 25% of admitted students score below 1480, and 25% score above 1550.

Although Amherst has a test-optional policy and you are not required to submit your SAT scores for consideration, submitting a competitive SAT score can definitely bolster your application, especially if it falls within or above the middle 50% range for accepted students. That being said, Amherst has a holistic review process, so they will consider other components of your application as well, such as your academic performance, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation.

If you believe that your SAT score does not accurately represent your academic abilities, or if you feel that other parts of your application can better demonstrate your strengths, you may choose not to submit your scores. However, if your SAT score is strong and falls within the range of accepted students, submitting your score could help reinforce your candidacy.

Best of luck in the application process!
