Is an 1100 SAT Score Good or Bad?

Hi everyone, I'm a junior and just got my SAT scores back. I ended up with an 1100. Is this a good score or should I try to improve it before applying to colleges next year? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there! An 1100 SAT score is about average, as the national median score hovers around 1050-1060. However, whether it's "good" or "bad" really depends on the colleges you're targeting. If you're aiming for more competitive schools, then you should definitely consider retaking the SAT to boost your score. Typically, a score in the range of 1200-1300 is considered competitive for many state universities and private colleges, while 1400 and above is more in line with highly selective institutions.

You mentioned that you're a junior, so you still have time to study and prepare for another SAT attempt. Identify where you struggled the most (e.g., math, reading, or writing) and focus on improving those areas. Make use of free resources like Khan Academy and engage in regular practice tests to help you get used to the test structure and pacing.

Remember, test scores are just one aspect of your college application. While improving your SAT score can boost your overall competitiveness, also ensure that you invest time in your extracurriculars, write strong essays, and maintain good grades. Good luck!
