Hey everyone! I've heard different things about using mechanical pencils on the SAT. Can someone please confirm if they're allowed or not? Thanks in advance!
In the past, mechanical pencils were not allowed on the SAT, as the scoring machines would only be able to read your answers if you used a No. 2 pencil. However, the SAT, including the answer sheet, is now digital. You will only be using your pencil on scratch paper, so a mechanical pencil should be fine.
I would recommend double-checking with the College Board, however, as their website does not say anything specific about mechanical pencils being allowed or not. Given the importance of the SAT, you want to make sure you follow protocol closely. To get clarification, you can give them a call at 866-756-7346, or fill out a contact form on their website: https://about.collegeboard.org/contact-us
Good luck with your SAT!
