Does Rice University require SAT scores?

Hey everyone, I'm looking into applying to Rice University next year, and I was wondering if they require SAT scores for admission? Have they gone test-optional due to COVID, or do I still need to take it? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Rice University is indeed currently test-optional. They originally made this decision in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and have kept the policy in place as they evaluate the importance of various elements of their application process.

However, keep in mind that Rice is quite a selective institution, which means you generally want to showcase your strengths in as many ways as possible, so submitting your SAT scores could still be a good idea. For detailed guidance on how to navigate test-optional policies, check out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/does-test-optional-mean-test-optional

Finally, if you want advice on how to strengthen the other aspects of your application, check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle each of Rice's school-specific supplemental essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-rice-university-essays/. At competitive schools like Rice, these essays are often just the thing that distinguish one academically qualified applicant from another.

Do keep in mind that Rice will continue to evaluate their test-optional policy in the future, so make sure to stay updated on any changes to their requirements. Good luck with your application!
