VCU admission requirements

Hello everyone! I'm a high school junior who's thinking about applying to VCU next year. Can anyone here provide some insight into their admission requirements, like what GPA or test scores they're looking for? Thanks!

Hello! I'm happy to provide you with some information about VCU's admission requirements. Keep in mind that these are general guidelines, and individual cases may vary.

1. GPA: VCU has a minimum high school GPA requirement of 2.5, but the average GPA of incoming freshmen is around 3.62. It's important to have a good GPA to be competitive, but also consider the rigor of your coursework, as challenging courses can make your application stronger.

2. Test Scores: As of the 2022-2023 application cycle, VCU is test-optional, meaning you have the choice to submit SAT or ACT scores, but it is not required. If you do decide to submit test scores, the average SAT score range for admitted students is 1120-1310 and the average ACT range is 23-30. Keep in mind that these are just averages, and students with scores outside of these ranges can still be admitted.

3. High School Curriculum: VCU recommends that applicants have the following coursework under their belts:

- 4 years of English

- 3 years of mathematics (minimum of Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II)

- 3 years of history and social science

- 3 years of science (at least two lab sciences)

- 3 years of a single foreign language OR 2 years of one language and 2 years of another

4. Other Requirements: In addition to academic performance, VCU requires an essay or personal statement in their application. Your essay can help showcase your personality, experiences, and what you'd bring to the VCU community. Additionally, like many other universities, VCU considers your extracurricular activities, leadership experience, and any awards or achievements, so make sure to highlight these aspects of your application.

It's crucial to remember that VCU, like many other schools, takes a holistic approach to reviewing applications. Thus, they look at the entirety of your application rather than focusing solely on specific numbers like GPA or test scores.

Good luck with your application! Feel free to ask if you have any more questions about the process or VCU.
