Acceptance chances with a 27 ACT score?

Hi, I got a 27 on my ACT and I'm curious about what schools would consider accepting me with that score. Can anyone provide a list or suggestions of colleges that might admit students with a 27 ACT score? Thanks so much!

Hello! With a 27 ACT score, you're already above the national average of around 20-21, which is great. However, to give more accurate suggestions, it would be helpful to know other aspects of your application, such as your extracurricular involvement and GPA.

Nonetheless, here are some reputable colleges and universities where a 27 ACT score fits within the middle 50% of admitted students (meaning 25% of admitted students scored below and 25% scored above). Keep in mind that schools admit students with a wide range of scores, and having a score within or close to the middle 50% range can be a good indicator of your fit academically:

1. University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA)

2. University of Arizona (Tucson, AZ)

3. San Diego State University (San Diego, CA)

4. University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa, AL)

5. University of North Texas (Denton, TX)

6. Florida State University (Tallahassee, FL)

7. Penn State University (State College, PA)

Please note that the list above is not exhaustive, and there are many other excellent institutions where your ACT score will be competitive. It's vital to research each college you're interested in and understand their holistic evaluation process, as admissions are not solely based on test scores alone. Consider your academic interests, location preferences, campus size, and extracurricular opportunities when making your college list. It might be a good idea to have a mix of match, safety, and reach schools to ensure you find the best fit for you.

If you're aiming for higher-ranked colleges, it is worth noting that many colleges have switched to test-optional policies, which means you may be able to apply without your test scores holding you back. If you believe that other parts of your application, such as your GPA, extracurricular activities, or personal statement, can better represent your potential, it may be beneficial to apply to test-optional schools.

Best of luck in your college search and application process!
