1120 SAT score: yay or nay?

Hello! I recently scored a 1120 on the SAT. I'm not sure if this is a good score or not. Does anyone have any insight on whether I should be happy with this score or if I need to study more for a retake?

An 1120 SAT score does put you in a competitive range for many colleges and universities, especially considering that the national average SAT score is around 1050. However, it is important to consider the schools you are interested in and their typical admitted student profiles. If you are targeting more selective colleges or universities, aiming for a higher score might be beneficial.

To get a better understanding of where your score stands, you can research the middle 50% SAT score range for the schools on your list. This information is usually available on the schools' websites or can be found through a quick internet search. If your score falls within (or above) that range, you have a competitive chance of being admitted, considering just the standardized test aspect. However, if you're below the middle 50% range, it might be a good idea to study more and retake the test.

Keep in mind that many schools have adopted test-optional policies due to the challenges faced by students during the pandemic, so make sure to verify those policies for your target schools. While a higher SAT score can strengthen your application, some colleges do not emphasize test scores as heavily as other factors like your GPA, extracurriculars, and essays.

Overall, whether you should be happy with your 1120 SAT score or retake the test will ultimately depend on your specific academic goals and target schools. It's always a good idea to balance your SAT score with other areas of your application, and remember that the admissions process is a holistic one. Good luck!
