ACT scores for University of Michigan: Are mine competitive?

Hello! I'm applying to the University of Michigan and I'm not sure if my ACT scores are good enough. I have a 32 composite score, with 33 in English, 30 in Math, 33 in Reading, and 30 in Science. Can you guys let me know if this would be competitive for admission? Thanks in advance!

Your current ACT composite score of 32 should be within the range for the University of Michigan, though it's important to keep in mind that the admissions process is holistic, and takes into account factors like your coursework, GPA, extracurricular activities, and essays.

For some context, the middle 50% ACT range for accepted students at the University of Michigan is typically between 32-34. Your composite score of 32 is within this range, and thus should be competitive.

Your section scores of 33 in English and 33 in Reading are very solid and above the middle range. Your Math and Science scores of 30 are on the lower end of that range, but still within the bounds of competitiveness.

Despite your ACT score being within range, remember to emphasize other aspects of your application, such as your academic achievements, extracurricular participation, and personal qualities in your essays. University of Michigan is quite a selective public institution, after all, so even a perfect 36 wouldn't get you in on its own.

Finally, it's worth noting that University of Michigan is officially test-optional, so you actually are not required to submit an ACT (or SAT) score. However, you're smart to still be thinking about how your ACT stacks up, as there are still many instances where including a standardized test score with your application can be a good idea. Best of luck with your application to the University of Michigan!
