How much does it cost to retake the ACT?

I'm thinking about retaking the ACT to improve my score, but I'm not sure about the costs involved. Can someone let me know how much it generally costs to retake the ACT, and if there are any fee waivers available for the retake?

The cost to retake the ACT depends on which version of the test you choose to take. There are two options for the ACT: the ACT (no Writing) and the ACT with Writing. As of 2024, the fees are as follows:

- ACT (no Writing): $68

- ACT with Writing: $93

Note that these costs do not include any additional fees for late registration ($38), test date or test center changes ($44), or standby testing ($68).

If you qualify for financial assistance, you may be eligible for a fee waiver for up to two ACT retakes. Fee waivers cover the full cost of the test, including the writing section if you choose to take it. To qualify for a fee waiver, you'll need to meet eligibility criteria which generally involve factors such as family income, being enrolled in a free or reduced-price lunch program, or receiving public assistance. You should talk to your high school counselor to determine if you qualify for a fee waiver and to obtain one if eligible.

Keep in mind that you want to be well-prepared before retaking the ACT, as spending more time studying and practicing is essential for achieving a higher score. Make sure to utilize available resources like practice tests, study guides, and free online resources to help improve your score before retesting.
