What ACT score is typically needed for Dartmouth?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out what ACT score range I should be aiming for if I want to apply to Dartmouth. I've looked at their official stats, but I'd love to hear from current students or applicants about their experiences. Can anyone share their insights on what a competitive ACT score would be for Dartmouth?

In recent years, Dartmouth's middle 50% ACT score range for admitted students has been around 32 to 35. While this gives you an idea of the typical scores for successful applicants, Dartmouth practices holistic admissions, which means that they will consider your entire application, not just your ACT score.

Your chances of admission increase as your ACT score gets closer to, or exceeds, the upper end of the middle 50% range. A score of 34 or higher would make your application more competitive in terms of standardized testing. At the same time, keep in mind that some students with lower ACT scores will be admitted based on the strength of the other components of their applications.

While a strong ACT score is important, it's also crucial to have a well-rounded application that includes a challenging course load, high GPA, strong essays, and meaningful extracurricular involvement. Focusing on these elements, in addition to aiming for a high ACT score, will give you the best chance of gaining admission to Dartmouth.

Keep in mind that Dartmouth and many other top-tier institutions have adopted test-optional policies at times, so always double-check the college's current testing requirements. However, for the 2024-2025 application cycle, Dartmouth has moved back to requiring standardized testing, so an ACT or SAT score will be necessary.
