Advice for applying to Stanford?

I'm starting to work on my college applications, and Stanford is my dream school. Anyone here who's been through the Stanford admissions process have any advice or tips to share? I'd really appreciate any help!

Yes, I understand why you're drawn to Stanford and would be happy to offer some advice on the application process.

1. Strong academics: Make sure you maintain top grades and a high GPA, as Stanford is very competitive academically. Consider challenging yourself with AP or IB courses in areas of interest or where you excel to demonstrate your eagerness to learn and ability to handle rigorous coursework.

2. Standardized tests: Stanford is test-optional through the 2024-2025 application cycle. However, submitting strong test scores can still help your application. Study properly and aim to score in the 75th percentile or higher for Stanford.

3. Unique "spike": Stanford values candidates with a highly-developed specialty that showcases their passion and potential for making an impact in their chosen field. Rather than being well-rounded, focus on developing a "spike" in your area of interest through internships, research, or other significant extracurricular activities.

4. Meaningful extracurriculars: Engage in 8-10 extracurricular activities, focusing on quality over quantity. Pursue leadership roles in clubs, sports, or volunteer work that align with your passions and academic or career interests.

5. Essays: Stanford's application requires several essays, which provide the opportunity to showcase your personality, experiences, and what makes you a unique candidate. Be genuine, reflective, and avoid cliché topics.

6. Recommendations: Obtain strong letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, or other individuals who know you well on a personal and academic level. These recommendations should highlight your character, accomplishments, and potential for success at Stanford.

7. Research Stanford: Be familiar with Stanford's academic programs, faculty, and extracurricular offerings.

8. If possible, apply Restrictive Early Action (REA): Although not required, applying REA can demonstrate your commitment to Stanford and increase your chances of admission. Just be aware that you won't be able to apply Early Decision or Early Action to other private colleges or universities while applying REA to Stanford.

Throughout the entire application process, be genuine and give the admissions committee a clear picture of who you are, your intellectual curiosity, and what you bring to the Stanford community. Best of luck!
