Using a calculator on the SAT?

Hey guys, I'll be taking the SAT soon and I'm not sure if we're allowed to use a calculator during the test. If we can, which sections is it allowed on? Also, any calculator recommendations?

You're definitely allowed to use a calculator on the SAT, which can be helpful in solving math problems more efficiently. As of spring 2024, the SAT has transitioned to a fully digital format, and now there are two math modules where you can use your calculator. So, you're able to utilize your calculator throughout the entire math portion of the test, as there's no longer a no-calculator section.

In terms of calculator recommendations, it's important to know that the College Board has some rules and restrictions on the types of calculators that can be used during the test. Generally, you're allowed to use any four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator that does not have a QWERTY (typewriter-like) keypad, does not use paper tape, does not make noise, and does not have a pen-input/stylus. Some popular and permitted calculator options are the TI-83, TI-84, or the TI-Nspire series.

Before test day, make sure to familiarize yourself with your calculator and learn how to use its functions efficiently. Additionally, ensure that it's fully charged or has fresh batteries to avoid any technical difficulties during the test.

Best of luck on your upcoming SAT!
