Looking for the smallest Division 1 colleges - any suggestions?

As I start to put together my college list, I realize that I enjoy the athletic environment of Division 1 schools but also prefer a smaller campus size. Are there any suggestions for the smallest Division 1 colleges? Are there any that have a good balance between athletics and academics?

It's great that you've identified your preferences for both Division 1 athletics and a smaller campus. Here are some smaller Division 1 colleges that strike a balance between athletics and academics:

1. Bucknell University: Located in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Bucknell is a liberal arts college with an enrollment of around 3,600 students. The university competes in the Patriot League and offers a wide range of sports programs. Academically, Bucknell has strong programs in engineering, management, and the liberal arts.

2. Colgate University: In Hamilton, New York, Colgate has a student population of approximately 2,900. Also a member of the Patriot League, Colgate has a strong athletic tradition. Known for its liberal arts curriculum, Colgate offers diverse academic programs and a tight-knit community.

3. College of the Holy Cross: Holy Cross, situated in Worcester, Massachusetts, has a student body of about 3,100 and participates in the Patriot League. Academically, Holy Cross is a liberal arts college with a strong emphasis on undergraduate education and a commitment to service.

4. Davidson College: Located in Davidson, North Carolina, this liberal arts college has around 2,000 students. It competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference for most sports, and the Pioneer Football League for football. Davidson is known for its rigorous academic program and emphasis on student-faculty interactions.

5. Pepperdine University: With a student population of approximately 3,600, Pepperdine is located in the beautiful city of Malibu, California. Competing in the West Coast Conference, the school boasts a strong athletic program in addition to programs in business, social sciences, and the liberal arts.

These are just a few examples of smaller Division 1 colleges with strong academic programs. As you explore these schools, it's essential to consider not only their athletic programs but also the academic offerings, campus culture, location, and overall fit for your individual needs. Don't forget to visit campuses and get in touch with their respective admissions offices for more information. Good luck with your college search!
