ACT Test Time Breakdown?

Hi everyone! I'm getting ready for the ACT and I'd like to know how much time I will have for each section. Can someone please provide the time allotment for each section, like English, Math, Reading, and Science? And how long are the breaks between sections?

Hi! The ACT is divided into four sections as you mentioned: English, Math, Reading, and Science. Here's the time breakdown for each section:

1. English: 45 minutes for 75 questions. This gives you approximately 36 seconds per question.

2. Math: 60 minutes for 60 questions. You'll have an average of 1 minute per question.

3. Reading: 35 minutes for 40 questions, which provides about 52.5 seconds per question.

4. Science: 35 minutes for 40 questions, also giving you around 52.5 seconds per question.

The entire test, not including the breaks, takes about 2 hours and 55 minutes.

In terms of breaks, there is a 10-15 minute break after the Math section. There is no break between the other sections, so make sure you manage your time and utilize those breaks to recharge and stay focused throughout the test.

If you decide to take the ACT with the optional Writing section, this is the breakdown:

- Writing: 40 minutes to complete 1 essay prompt.

The Writing section comes after the Science section, and there will be a short 5-minute break before you start the Writing section. Including the Writing section, the test takes a total of 3 hours and 35 minutes (excluding breaks).

Good luck with your ACT preparation!
