How difficult is it to get into NC State?

Hi there! I've been looking into applying to North Carolina State University and was wondering how hard it is to get in. Can anyone provide info about average GPAs, test scores (if they are no longer test optional), and any other factors they consider? Thanks in advance!

Hi! North Carolina State University (NC State) is a moderately selective institution. To give you a better idea of the admission standards, here are some statistics on the average GPAs and test scores for admitted students:

- The average unweighted GPA of admitted students is around 3.79 – 3.97

- The middle 50% SAT range is approximately 1270-1440.

- The middle 50% ACT range is about 29-33.

As of now, NC State is test-optional for the 2024-2025 application cycle, which means that you can still choose to submit SAT or ACT scores, but they are not required. The test-optional policy may change for future application cycles, so it's a good idea to keep an eye on their admissions website for updates. In the meantime, if you're wondering how to navigate test-optional policies, I'd recommend checking out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/does-test-optional-mean-test-optional/

Besides test scores and GPA, NC State considers several other factors in the admissions process, such as:

1. Course Rigor: NC State values applicants who have pursued a challenging high school curriculum, including AP, IB, and Honors courses.

2. Extracurricular Activities: Engagement in activities that demonstrate leadership, commitment, and personal growth can help show your potential to contribute to the campus community.

3. Essays: Well-written essays provide the opportunity to showcase your personality, experiences, and goals, which can help you stand out among other applicants. CollegeVine's blog contains detailed guidance on how to tackle NC State's school-specific supplemental essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-north-carolina-state-university-essays

4. Letters of Recommendation (optional): While not required, strong recommendations from teachers or counselors can highlight your academic and personal strengths.

Ultimately, you should aim to present a strong, well-rounded application that showcases your academic achievements, character, and potential to succeed at NC State in each component. Good luck with your application!
