Are there free SAT opportunities?

I know the SAT can be a bit pricey, so I'm wondering if there are any opportunities to take the SAT for free? Do colleges or other organizations offer fee waivers? Thanks!

Yes, there are opportunities for eligible students to take the SAT for free through the College Board's fee waiver program. College Board offers a limited number of fee waivers to students who demonstrate financial need. To be eligible, you must meet certain criteria, such as being enrolled in a federal, state, or local program aiding students from low-income families, being eligible for free or reduced-price lunch at school, or having a family income that falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines.

If you believe you qualify for a fee waiver, you will need to speak with your high school counselor or another authorized school official, who can verify your eligibility and provide you with the necessary fee waiver code. Once you have the code, you can use it when registering for the SAT on the College Board website.

The fee waiver covers not only the cost of the SAT but also a couple of additional benefits:

1. Two free SAT registrations

2. Unlimited free score reports sent to colleges

3. Fee waivers for up to four college applications (at participating schools)

Additionally, many schools and organizations offer free or low-cost SAT prep resources, like Khan Academy, which provides personalized SAT study plans based on your performance on a diagnostic test.
