Thoughts on a 25 ACT score?

Hi there! Just got my ACT results and I scored a 25. I was wondering if this is considered a solid score for college admissions? Trying to gauge how competitive of an applicant I might be based on this score. Any advice is appreciated!

A 25 on the ACT is considered an average score, as the national average tends to hover around 20-21. However, a "solid" score for college admissions really depends on the types of schools you're interested in and your other application components.

If you're looking at highly selective colleges, a 25 might be on the lower side when compared to their applicants' average ACT scores. For example, the middle 50% ACT score at top-tier schools often range between 30 and 35 (or even higher at some Ivy Leagues). In this case, you might want to retake the ACT or consider schools that are test-optional for the 2024-2025 application cycle if you believe the rest of your application will be stronger.

On the other hand, if you're considering public universities, state schools, or less competitive liberal arts colleges, a 25 may well be within their middle 50% ACT score range. To get a better understanding of the competitiveness of your score, you can research your target schools' websites or use resources like CollegeVine to find information on what their typical ACT score ranges are for admitted students.

Apart from your ACT score, it's important to consider your overall application, which includes your GPA, course rigor, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation. Don't forget that the admissions process is holistic, so even if your ACT score isn't as high as you'd like it to be, you might still stand out in other ways. Ultimately, it's crucial to focus on building a well-rounded and compelling application that reflects your strengths, accomplishments, and character.

Good luck with your college applications!
