Hey, has anyone heard of any upcoming changes to the SAT format? Just trying to stay updated on what I should be preparing for.
Yes, there have been significant format changes to the SAT as it transitioned to a fully digital format in spring 2024. Here's an overview of the structure of the digital SAT:
1. Reading and Writing: This section is divided into two 32-minute modules with a total of 54 questions. You'll have approximately 71 seconds per question.
2. Math: This section is also divided into two 35-minute modules, and you'll need to answer 44 questions. You have 96 seconds per question, which is a little over a minute and a half.
In total, the digital SAT takes 134 minutes to complete 98 questions.
Additionally, the SAT no longer has a no-calculator section in the math portion. You are permitted to use your calculator on both math modules.
Finally, keep in mind that the SAT essay has been discontinued since 2021, so there's no writing section anymore.
To help you prepare for these changes and get a feel for the digital SAT, you can use the Bluebook™ app, which allows you to preview the digital SAT format and take a full-length practice test. Good luck with your preparations!
