What's the entrance process at Princeton?

Hey everybody! I was wondering what the entrance process is like at Princeton University. What types of admission options do they have (e.g., Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Decision)? Any insight would be great, thank you!

Hi there! Princeton University offers two admission options: Single-Choice Early Action (SCEA) and Regular Decision (RD).

Single-Choice Early Action: Under this non-binding program, you can apply early to Princeton but cannot submit early applications to any other private colleges or universities in the U.S. However, you can still apply to public institutions or international institutions. The deadline for SCEA is typically around November 1st, and decisions are generally released in mid-December. If admitted, you have until May 1st to make your decision.

Regular Decision: This is the traditional admission process where you apply by the deadline, usually around January 1st, and receive your decision by late March or early April. As with SCEA, you have until May 1st to make your decision if accepted.

To apply to Princeton, you'll need to complete the Common Application or Coalition Application, and also submit the Princeton Supplement. Required components of the application include:

1. High school transcript

2. A school report and counselor recommendation

3. Two teacher recommendations

4. SAT or ACT scores (these are required for the 2024-2025 application cycle)

5. TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test scores, if applicable

Additionally, Princeton also requires a graded written paper from one of your high school classes. This paper should be an analytical essay or an excerpt of a larger one. Your application will also include essays and short-answer questions to help the admissions committee get to know you better.

Keep in mind that Princeton has a highly competitive admissions process, so it's important to present a strong academic record and demonstrate your commitment to extracurricular activities, personal qualities, and potential for success. Good luck!
