I'm getting ready to take the SAT soon and I wanted to know how long the test actually takes? How much time should I plan for on test day, including breaks?
The digital SAT has the following structure:
Reading and Writing: two 32-minute modules, to complete 54 questions. You have about 71 seconds per question.
Math: two 35-minute modules, to complete 44 questions. You have 96 seconds per question, or a little over a minute and a half.
The total duration of the digital SAT is 134 minutes, or about 2 hours and 14 minutes, to complete 98 questions.
In addition to the testing time, you'll have a few short breaks. There is one 10-minute break after the first Reading and Writing module, and another 5-minute break after the first Math module. This brings the total testing time, including breaks, to around 2 hours and 29 minutes.
To account for time spent on test day procedures like checking in and getting settled, you should plan for around 3 hours to be on the safe side. Remember to arrive early at the testing center to ensure you have enough time for check-in and to get comfortable before the test begins. Good luck!
