Challenging Math Problems for High Schoolers?

Hello everyone, I'm looking to find some challenging math problems that would be suitable for high school students to solve. I'm part of a math club at school, and we'd like to up the ante a bit during our problem-solving sessions. Any recommendations on where to find these problems or examples of specific problems to try out? Thanks!

Hello! It's great to hear that you and your fellow math enthusiasts are looking to challenge yourselves. There are several resources and platforms where you can find engaging and challenging math problems specifically designed for high school students. Some of these include:

1. American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) — These competitions offer a variety of math problems that are designed for students with a range of abilities. You can find past competition problems and solutions on the AMC website. These problems are excellent for groups to work on collaboratively or individually.

2. Mathematical Association of America (MAA) — The MAA also offers various resources, including an online problem library known as MAA Math Vault, which contains problems from their collegiate-level contests. Some high school students might find these problems to be a good challenge, especially if they have a solid understanding of more advanced math concepts.

3. Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) — AoPS is a popular online community that focuses on mathematics education for motivated students. They offer a wealth of resources, including problem sets from various math competitions and their own curriculum. You can also find interesting discussions related to tough math problems in their community forum.

4. Project Euler — This is an online collection of challenging math problems that require creative problem-solving and programming skills. While not specifically designed for high school students, advanced high schoolers with an interest in both math and programming might enjoy these problems.

5. Brilliant.org — This website offers a variety of math and science problems at different levels of difficulty, some of which are catered to high school students. You'll need to create an account to access problems and solutions, but it's a great resource for finding engaging and challenging problems.

Remember to collaborate and discuss problems with your peers to develop diverse problem-solving strategies. Good luck, and have fun exploring these resources with your math club!
