What do you think about a 750 SAT score?

Hey guys, I got a 750 on one of my SAT sections and I'm a bit unsure about how strong that is. Is it a decent score for top colleges? Or should I try to improve on it to have a better chance during admissions?

A 750 on one of your SAT sections is a great achievement, so congratulations on that! To provide context, the SAT has two main sections: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW). Each section is scored on a scale of 200 to 800, making the maximum possible score 1600.

A 750 is considered a strong score for either section. According to CollegeBoard, percentile rankings show that a score of 750 in Math would put you in the 96th percentile, while a 750 in EBRW would place you in the 99th percentile. This means that your score is better than 96% and 99% of test-takers, respectively.

However, placement at top colleges can be highly competitive, and many of these schools have high average test scores among admitted students, often in the mid-700s range for each section. Although a 750 is very respectable, you can consider attempting to improve it, especially if you aim for the most selective institutions. But keep in mind that these schools often have additional criteria, such as essays, extracurricular activities, and recommendation letters, that can help differentiate you and make a strong case for your candidacy.

If your target schools' average test scores align with your current 750, you may not need to worry about retaking the test. Instead, focus on other aspects of your application that can exhibit your strengths and better reflect who you are as a candidate. In any case, it's crucial to research each of your target schools to understand their specific requirements and expectations during the admissions process.
