How many extracurricular activities should I have for the Ivy League?

Hello, I'm a junior trying to figure out how many extracurricular activities I should be involved in to be competitive for Ivy League schools. I have a few that I'm passionate about, but I'm unsure if I should add more. Any thoughts or advice? Thank you!

Hi! It's great that you're already involved in a few extracurricular activities that you're passionate about. Ivy League schools value quality over quantity when it comes to extracurriculars. So, rather than focusing on the number of activities, it would be beneficial to dedicate time and energy into the ones you genuinely care about.

That said, a well-rounded applicant typically has 3-5 activities that demonstrate depth and commitment. If you believe you can actively contribute and thrive in more activities, by all means, explore new opportunities. However, it's essential to remember that admissions officers appreciate the impact and leadership roles you take on in your current activities as opposed to simply joining more clubs or organizations. As a junior, you still have ample time to make a lasting impact on your extracurriculars while remaining genuine in your pursuits. Good luck and keep following your passions!
