How much does NYU care about freshman grades?

Hi everyone, so I'm kind of freaking out because my freshman year grades weren't that great, but I've improved a lot since then. Does NYU look at freshman year grades when reviewing applications? Would they be understanding of my growth?

NYU, like most colleges, does review your entire high school transcript, including freshman year grades. However, they also take into account the trend of your academic performance across all four years. If you show significant improvement and growth after your freshman year, admissions officers are likely to recognize your upward trajectory and consider the progress you've made.

It's important to maintain your improved grades and rigor during your junior and senior years, as these are the most critical years for college applications. Additionally, you can emphasize the upward trend in your grades through your personal statement or any additional essays if applicable.

In summary, while NYU does consider freshman year grades, they also look at the context of your entire high school career. Make sure you continue to demonstrate a strong upward trend in both your performance and course rigor to show that you've learned from your early struggles and have become a better student because of it.
