Will retaking the SAT/ACT multiple times hurt my chances of getting into college?

Hey there! I'm a junior and I've taken the SAT/ACT a few times already, but I'm considering retaking it again to improve my score. I'm worried that retaking the test multiple times might hurt my chances of getting into college. Can anyone offer any insight into this? Thanks so much!

Hey there! I totally understand your concerns about retaking the SAT/ACT multiple times. When my child was in your position, we had the same question. From what I learned, most colleges are more focused on your highest score rather than the number of times you've taken the test. In fact, many colleges practice 'superscoring,' where they take the highest section scores from multiple test dates and combine them to create a new, higher overall score. This can work to your advantage! That being said, it's a good idea to check the admissions policies of the specific colleges you're interested in, as some might have different preferences. Overall, I would say that if you feel confident that you can improve your score, it's worth taking the test again. Just make sure you're also focusing on other aspects of your application, like your GPA, extracurriculars, and recommendations. Good luck!
