What's a good ACT score for UNC Chapel Hill?

UNC Chapel Hill is one of my dream schools, and I'm wondering what ACT score range I should aim for to give myself a good chance of getting in. Does anyone have any idea about their average ACT scores or what the University considers a strong ACT score?

UNC Chapel Hill is a competitive university, and having a solid ACT score will be beneficial for your application. In recent years, the middle 50% ACT score range for admitted students at UNC Chapel Hill has been around 29-33. This statistic means that 50% of students who were admitted to the University had an ACT score between 29 and 33, while 25% scored below 29, and 25% scored above 33.

Aiming for a score within or above this middle 50% range will make you a competitive applicant. However, keep in mind that a high ACT score alone does not guarantee admission, as UNC Chapel Hill evaluates applicants based on a holistic review process. They'll take multiple factors into account when considering your application, such as your academic performance, extracurricular involvement, essays, and letters of recommendation.

If you're looking for tips on how to strengthen your overall application to UNC Chapel Hill, check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle their school-specific supplemental essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-unc-chapel-hill-essays/. At selective schools like UNC Chapel Hill, the essays can be just the thing that distinguishes on academically qualified applicant from another.

Finally, it is worth noting that UNC Chapel Hill is officially test-optional, so submitting an ACT (or SAT) score is actually not required. However, you're smart to still be thinking about a target score, as at selective institutions, you generally want to showcase your strengths in as many ways as possible. For detailed guidance on how to navigate test-optional policies, check out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/does-test-optional-mean-test-optional/

Overall, while it's important to aim for a strong ACT score, also make sure to focus on other aspects of your application to increase your chances of admission to UNC Chapel Hill. Good luck!
