How can I make my application stand out if I'm from an overrepresented demographic?

Hey everyone, I'm a high school junior, and I'm worried that my demographic is overrepresented in college admissions. How can I make my application stand out and show my unique qualities, even if I come from a competitive group of applicants? Thanks for any help!

Hello! While I understand this may have been a concern in past years, schools are no longer allowed to directly consider your race when making their admissions decisions, after the Supreme Court's overturning of affirmative action earlier this year. You can read more about that decision here: https://blog.collegevine.com/end-of-affirmative-action

Regardless, the best advice for how to make your application stand out is the same as it's always been: focus on your personal growth, development, and overall story as a person, especially in your personal statement and supplemental essays. Find unique aspects of your life or experiences that would set you apart from anyone, regardless of which demographic they're a part of. That could be a compelling personal story, a unique skill or talent, a significant accomplishment, or your genuine passion for a particular area of study or extracurricular activity.

Good luck with crafting an application that presents you in the best possible light!
