Is the SAT needed for Harvard admissions?

Hey everyone! I'm looking at applying to Harvard next year and I'm a little confused about their SAT requirements. Has anyone here applied or been accepted to Harvard? What's their policy regarding the SAT? Is it required or optional, and how important is it in their admissions process?

Hi! As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, Harvard University has reverted to requiring all applicants to submit an SAT or ACT score. This change came after a period of being test-optional in response to COVID-19 disruptions. Now that the SAT is fully digital and easily accessible, Harvard and several other highly selective schools have reestablished standardized testing as a requirement in their admissions process.

Although your SAT or ACT score is a crucial component of your application, it is not the only factor considered by the admissions committee. Harvard, like most highly selective colleges, uses a holistic admissions process, which means they evaluate all aspects of your application: your transcript, extracurricular activities, essays, and recommendation letters. A strong SAT or ACT score can definitely enhance your application, but having a well-rounded profile with achievements in other areas is equally important.

When preparing your application for Harvard, it's crucial to strike a balance between academic excellence (including your SAT or ACT score) and standout accomplishments in your extracurricular activities, essays, and recommendation letters. Best of luck with your application!
