Is 1490 a solid SAT score for Ivy League applications?

Hi everyone, I recently received my SAT score and my composite is 1490. I'd like to apply to Ivy League schools, but I'm unsure if this score is strong enough. Should I retake the SAT or is my score competitive? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi there! First off, congratulations on achieving a 1490 on your SAT. That's definitely a strong score. When it comes to Ivy League schools, the admissions process is known to be quite competitive. While a 1490 is a solid score, the middle 50% range for admitted students at most Ivies tends to be around 1470-1560. That puts you just within that range.

It's important to remember, though, that Ivies employ a holistic admissions process – meaning they look at various aspects of your application, not just your SAT score. Your extracurriculars, GPA, recommendation letters, and personal statement will also play a significant role in the decision-making process.

Ultimately, the decision to retake your SAT depends on the rest of your application. If you feel that other areas of your application are exceptionally strong, your current score might suffice. Otherwise, you may consider retaking the test to boost your chances of admission. Keep in mind that many students also get accepted with scores lower than the middle 50% range.

Best of luck in your college application journey!
