What is a competitive unweighted GPA for Ivy League admissions?

Hello! I'm planning to apply to some Ivy League schools and I'm trying to determine a good target unweighted GPA. Can anyone provide some advice or numbers to aim for in order to be competitive? Thanks in advance!

Hello! It's great that you're setting goals for your college admissions journey. When applying to Ivy League schools, it's important to remember that they evaluate applicants holistically – taking into account academics, extracurricular activities, essays, recommendations, and other factors.

In terms of unweighted GPA, aiming for a 3.8 or higher would generally be considered competitive at most Ivy League schools. That being said, the higher the better, as trying to maintain a 4.0 unweighted GPA demonstrates consistent academic excellence. However, keep in mind that variation can exist between institutions, as some may focus more on a weighted GPA that accounts for the rigor of your courseload.

Being competitive also requires taking the most challenging courses offered at your school, such as honors, AP, or IB classes. Strong test scores, meaningful community involvement, leadership experience, and compelling personal statements are also essential elements to a successful Ivy League application. Best of luck on your college admissions journey and remember to put forth your best effort in all aspects of the process!
