Do colleges value AP classes over other advanced courses?

Hey! I'm a junior and I've taken a mix of AP and other advanced courses throughout high school. I'm wondering if colleges value AP classes more than other advanced courses, or if it's more about the rigor of my overall schedule. Any insights? Thanks!

Hello! Based on my own experience with my child's college application process, the most important thing is demonstrating the rigor of your overall schedule. Colleges appreciate when students challenge themselves by taking a mix of AP, honors, and other advanced courses. It shows that you're willing to take on more difficult material and are ready for the challenges of college academics. So, while AP courses might be more recognizable in terms of the standardized curriculum and exam, colleges will still value other advanced courses as well. Just make sure to maintain a strong GPA and show consistent progress in your studies. It's always a good idea to consult your school counselor or someone knowledgeable about your specific school's offerings and how they might be viewed by colleges. Best of luck with your college applications!
