What should I look for when choosing a college?

Hey collegevine friends! I'm a junior and I'm starting to put together a list of colleges that I'd like to apply to. There are so many options out there that it's a bit overwhelming. What factors should I consider when picking schools to apply to? Is there a specific process that you guys recommend? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there! It's great that you're starting to think about your college list early. When our family went through this process, we considered a variety of factors, some of which might be helpful to you as well.

First, think about the size of the school. Do you prefer smaller class sizes and more personal interaction with professors, or do you like the idea of a large university with a diverse student body? The location is also important - urban, suburban, or rural settings can all offer different experiences. Consider how far you're willing to travel away from home and whether you'd like to experience a new climate or culture.

Academic offerings are, of course, essential. Look into the programs and majors offered at each school, and consider the school's reputation for your intended field of study. Additionally, research the resources and support systems available for students, such as tutoring, career services, and internship opportunities.

Lastly, don't forget to consider campus life and extracurricular activities. Think about what clubs, organizations, and sports teams you might be interested in joining. And of course, it's important to visit the campus if possible to get a feel for the atmosphere! Good luck with your college search!
