MIT's diversity: what's it like?

Hey everyone! I've been looking into MIT and I like the idea of a diverse campus. What's the overall diversity like at MIT? Are there many international students, and what ethnic/cultural groups are represented?

MIT values diversity in its student body, and you'll find a range of ethnic, cultural, and geographic backgrounds among the students. As of Spring 2024, the undergraduate student population is approximately 36% White, 25% Asian, 10% Hispanic/Latino, and 8% Black or African American. In addition to this, around 29% of undergraduate students are international, representing over 120 countries. Apart from the diversity in ethnicity and geographic origin, there's also diversity in terms of socioeconomic background, religions, and personal interests.

The campus is home to numerous clubs and organizations that cater to different cultural groups, such as the Black Students' Union, the Arab Student Association, the South Asian American Students Club, and the Association of Taiwanese Students, among many others. These organizations provide a platform for students from diverse backgrounds to connect with one another, celebrate their cultures, and create a more inclusive environment on campus.

In summary, MIT's diverse student body is a testament to the institution's commitment to creating an inclusive environment that values different perspectives. This variety enriches not only the academic experience but also the social and cultural interactions you'll encounter during your time at MIT.
