Hi everyone, I recently received my SAT scores, and I got a 1480. I want to apply to Ivy League schools, but I'm not sure if this score is competitive enough. Should I retake the SAT and try to score higher, or is a 1480 good enough to stand a chance at Ivy League admissions? Thanks for your advice!
Hello! Congratulations on your 1480 SAT score, that's a great achievement! While your score is definitely strong, Ivy League schools tend to have high average SAT scores, generally in the mid-1500s. However, it's essential to remember that SAT scores are just one piece of the application puzzle.
The admissions process is holistic, so showcasing your extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and essays can make a significant difference in your application. Retaking the SAT can certainly prove to be beneficial if you think you can improve, but make sure to also focus on the other elements of your application.
One of my children applied to Ivies a couple of years ago, and their SAT score was in the same range as yours. While they didn't get into every Ivy, they did receive a few acceptances! It all depends on your overall profile and how well you present yourself to the admissions committee. Best of luck!
