Does Columbia University focus on research?

Hello, I’m a junior looking into potential universities for my college applications, and one of the schools I’m considering is Columbia. Can anyone tell me if Columbia is a research university, and if so, how highly it is regarded? I'm planning on majoring in political science. Thanks for your help!

Hi there! I'm glad to see you're considering Columbia University. Yes, Columbia is indeed a research university; it has a strong emphasis on research across various disciplines, including political science. As an Ivy League institution, it's highly regarded both nationally and internationally.

When it comes to the political science department, the curriculum is diverse, and there are opportunities for students to conduct their own research. Some examples could be projects around political behavior, comparative politics, or international relations. Many of their faculty members are prominent figures and have extensive research backgrounds, which could prove valuable to students interested in that field.

Aside from that, New York City provides an excellent backdrop for political science students with the United Nations Headquarters and other global organizations nearby. Overall, if research is important to you, Columbia is a great choice. Good luck with your college search!
