What's a good class rank for getting into the Ivy League?

Hi all, I'm trying to plan my college application strategy and I'm wondering what kind of class rank is typically considered competitive for Ivy League admissions. Is it top 1%, top 5%, or something else? Don't want to get my hopes up if I'm not in the ballpark. Thanks!

Hey there! It's great that you're planning your college application strategy. It's important to have a realistic understanding of what it takes to get into highly competitive schools like the Ivy League. While I'm no expert, I do have some insights to share from my experience with my child's application process.

Class rank is definitely an important factor for Ivy League admissions, but it's just one of many factors they consider. That said, the majority of those who get accepted typically have very high class ranks, like top 5% or even top 1% of their class. Aiming for the top of your class can greatly improve your odds.

However, even if you have a slightly lower class rank, it's not necessarily game over. Ivy League schools also place a lot of emphasis on extracurricular activities, leadership experience, essays, and recommendation letters. If you can excel in these other areas and show a genuine passion for learning, you can still catch their attention!

Good luck with your application journey, and remember that there are plenty of great schools out there besides the Ivy League! Keep your options open.
