BC GPA Calculator

Hi everyone, I am trying to calculate my GPA based on Boston College's (BC) scale. Does anyone know of a reliable GPA calculator, or can someone help me figure it out? Thanks a lot!

Boston College uses a 4.0 GPA scale to evaluate applicants. To convert your current GPA to this scale, follow these steps:

1. Identify the scale your school uses: Is it a 4.0 unweighted scale, a 5.0 weighted scale, or some other scale?

2. Look for any notes on your high school transcript or the guidance counselor's office, indicating how your high school calculates GPA. This can give you useful information on weights given to AP, IB, or honors courses.

3. If your high school uses a weighted GPA scale, make sure to convert it to a 4.0 scale. You can do this by subtracting 1.00 from any honors and AP/IB courses that are on a 5.0 scale, so an A in an AP class would be 4.0 instead of 5.0.

Once you've gathered this information, use the following steps to calculate your GPA on a 4.0 scale:

1. Assign each course a numerical value based on your letter grades: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, and F = 0.0.

2. If your school gives different weights to honors and AP/IB courses, add the appropriate adjustment: +0.5 for weighted honors courses, +1.0 for weighted AP/IB courses.

3. Multiply the numerical value of each course grade by the number of credits the course is worth.

4. Add up the total number of credits for all your courses.

5. Calculate the sum of the weighted grades from step 3 and divide it by the total number of credits from step 4. This will give you your GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Keep in mind that Boston College, like many colleges, takes into account not just the GPA but also the rigor of the courses you've taken. So make sure to participate in challenging courses that highlight your academic strengths. If you're still unsure about how to calculate your GPA, consider reaching out to your high school guidance counselor or an admissions representative at Boston College for more help.
