Is Northwestern known for its research?

I'm interested in applying to Northwestern, but I'm not sure how much emphasis they place on research. I'm thinking about majoring in materials science and engineering. Can anyone tell me if Northwestern is considered a research university? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! You're in luck, Northwestern is indeed known for its research, and it's considered a top research university. They place a strong emphasis on giving opportunities for undergraduate students in research experiences across various disciplines.

In fact, Northwestern has a well-respected Materials Science and Engineering program, and numerous research centers and institutes that focus on advanced materials research. One example is the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) which is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

As a student there, you would have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and even participate in interdisciplinary research activities. I'd recommend checking out their website to learn more about the available research opportunities and facilities for materials science students. Overall, I believe Northwestern could be an excellent choice for someone who is passionate about research and materials science like yourself!

Best of luck!
