Hey everyone! I'm hoping to apply early decision to my dream school, but there is also another school I really like that offers early action. Can I apply to both early decision (binding) and early action (non-binding), or am I only allowed to do one of them? I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, so any advice or clarification would be amazing. Thank you!
Hello! It's great that you're thinking ahead about your college applications. Yes, you can apply to both early decision (ED) and early action (EA) at the same time, as long as the schools you're applying to allow it. Remember that ED is a binding agreement, and if you are accepted, you are expected to attend that school and withdraw your other applications.
However, some schools have what's called 'Restrictive Early Action' or 'Single-Choice Early Action' which means that you can't apply to any other school's early decision or early action programs if you choose that option. So, make sure you thoroughly review each school's policies before deciding to apply early action or early decision.
For example, my child applied ED to their top choice and EA to a couple of other schools with non-restrictive policies. This worked out well for them, as they were accepted to their dream school through the ED process. Just be certain you’re comfortable with the financial commitment of the ED school, in case you're accepted there. Best of luck with your applications!
