Marine Biology colleges in NYC

I'm really interested in studying marine biology and I'm looking for colleges in New York City that offer this major. Any recommendations?

I'm glad you're interested in studying marine biology! New York City has a few colleges that offer programs related to marine biology. Here are some options to consider:

1. Columbia University: While Columbia doesn't have a dedicated marine biology major, they do offer a major in Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology (E3B). This program allows you to focus on marine ecosystems and aquatic organisms by selecting relevant elective courses tailored to your interests.

2. CUNY - Brooklyn College: Brooklyn College, part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system, offers a major in Biology with a concentration in Aquatic Biology. This program focuses on the study of organisms living in aquatic environments, which can include marine life.

3. CUNY - City College: City College also offers a Biology major in the CUNY system, with an opportunity to focus on ecology and evolutionary biology. Within this focus, you can choose courses related to marine biology for a more tailored education.

4. CUNY - Kingsborough Community College: For a more hands-on approach, consider Kingsborough Community College's Marine Technology (Marine Biology track) with an Associate Degree program that can be transferred on to a 4-year university for further study in marine biology.

Keep in mind, studying marine biology in a city environment may not offer the same level of fieldwork opportunities as colleges located near coastal areas or with direct access to marine habitats. You might want to expand your search to include colleges in New York State or surrounding areas with strong marine biology programs, like Stony Brook University on Long Island.

Regardless of the college you choose, it's important to take advantage of internships, research opportunities, and study abroad programs that focus on marine biology to gain hands-on experience in the field. Good luck with your search!
